Dubbed the “Brené Brown of Down Under” by those who have heard her story, Alexa Towersey is a powerful voice and positive role model in the health and fitness industry. Her recent triumph on Discovery Channel’s highest rated reality series, Naked and Afraid (Season 17) saw her survive 21 days in the Colombian jungle, showcasing her mental toughness, compassion and infectious humour which quickly captivated audiences worldwide.
Growing up in a military family, Alexa’s mission for muscles began amidst adversity, overcoming childhood bullying with a dedication to fitness. Nicknamed “Alexa Anorexia” in school, she found solace and strength in the gym, shaping not only her physique but also her unwavering mental fortitude. Her mantra, “When I feel physically strong, I think strong thoughts,” underscores her belief in the profound connection between physical and mental well-being.
With over two decades of experience in the industry, Alexa has excelled as an athlete, sports model, high-performance coach, and celebrity trainer. Armed with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Psychology, she further honed her expertise with postgraduate studies in Sports Management and Kinesiology. In 2022, she completed the World’s longest and toughest horse race, “The Mongol Derby” (1000 km’s across the Mongolian Desert on semi-wild horses), winning the coveted Nomad award for resilience in the process.
Alexa’s signature female focused weight training program Creating Curves (based on the workouts of former Miss Universe Australia Renae Ayris) garnered international acclaim and saw Harper’s Bazaar award her the title of “The Model Whisperer”. She is renowned for instilling a tireless work ethic in those she trains, and in her eyes, “There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a woman become empowered in her training, and then watching how this translates into her attitude towards the rest of her life.”
Based out of the Russell Crowe-founded athletic facility 98 Gym in Sydney, Alexa has collaborated with Warner Brothers on major film productions and embarked on a national tour with Julia Michaels. Her clientele boasts a roster of celebrities, including Delta Goodrem, Pia Miller, Jessica Gomes, Rebecca Vallance, Kris Smith, Guy Sebastien, Shannon Noll, and Mark Beretta.
