05-AUG-2011Nova's Fitzy & Wippa Create A New World Record

Fitzy & Wippa's Bob KatterPult

Tonight Nova’s Fitzy & Wippa successfully broke the World Record for the Most Powerful Trebuchet, creating a new World Record of 76.94 metres.

At 5.30pm Nova’s Fitzy & Wippa used a custom built, 10.5 metre high catapult, to launch a listener’s Volkswagen Beetle, an official distance of 76.94 metres at the Tyrepower Sydney Speedway.

Independent MP Bob Katter, dressed as Sir Thomas More, a statesman and councilor to Henry VIII of England, who was beheaded after refusing to accept the king as Supreme Head of the Church of England, launched the vehicle.

Now the technical details:

In order to break the record, the Guinness World Records required the vehicle to be thrown over 52,088 kilogram metres (the weight of what has been thrown multiplied by the distance it is thrown in kilograms and metres).

Tonight Fitzy & Wippa threw a 766kg Volkswagen Beetle 76.94 metres - an official distance of 58,936 kilogram metres - creating a new World Record as confirmed by a representative from the Guinness World Records after the attempt.

The LifeStyle Channel’s hit show Selling Houses Australia and the show’s presenter Andrew Winter have won the awards for Favourite Australia Program and Favourite Male Personality for the second year in a row at the 9th Annual ASTRA Awards ceremony in Sydney last night.

Andrew went on to say in his best Australian accent, “I’m stoked to have been awarded favourite personality too… it was totally unexpected.  Now I’m back to reality today, filming in the Sydney rain!”

Charlie Albone celebrated, albeit nervously, “I am really glad we won favourite program for Selling Houses Australia but not too happy about Andrew and favourite personality. I made a bet on Twitter I would get an “Andrew Winter” spray tan if he won."

05-JUL-2011Happy New Financial Year

Sample imageJuliet Love

The team at HMMG are taking the start of July very seriously. Today we commence a three day detox (juices for everyone), end of year financial reporting sent out and an audit of office productivity and workflow.

We called upon client, interior designer and television personality Juliet Love, to share some simple tips on creating a beautiful, functional workspace for the new financial year.

An inspiring work environment that is clean and clutter-free helps with productivity, and ultimately career success. Follow these simple tips to create a space you will look forward to working in every day.

De-clutter for positive energy flow
The first, and most important, element to creating a successful work environment is to de-clutter your work space. That means a proper clear out, not just a clean up! And with the new financial year upon us, now is the perfect time to do it! Go through any piles of paperwork that have been left to languish on your desk, throw out any unnecessary bits and pieces, and create a clear work surface. The only things that should be on your desk are absolute necessities. Keep a spray bottle of cleaning fluid, or some cleaning wipes, on hand to use weekly to wipe down surfaces, as well as your phone. This will keep dust and any nasties at bay.

Establish a user friendly filing system
A filing system is essential in every office. Freestanding filing cabinets can be purchased in various sizes and make sorting and finding files so much easier. Even if you only have room for a filing folder, get one! If you can't delegate your filing to someone else (I often wish the filing fairy would pop by my office!), dedicate a couple of times each week to it - Monday and Thursday mornings generally work well, then paperwork won't pile up on your desk.

Get an office plant
Electrical equipment can affect air quality and with modern technology we are all surrounded by computers, faxes, and printers! Research has shown that indoor plants can actually purify the air. For this reason it's important to include a hardy indoor plant in your office. Some good choices include peace lilies or lady palms. Place them in an attractive pot to enhance the visual beauty in the room, water them weekly, and feed them with a slow release fertiliser twice yearly. Similarly, a pretty bunch of flowers can brighten up your desk and make those inevitable difficult days easier! Treat yourself every few weeks and your productivity is guaranteed to increase!

Place inspiration around you
Use a pin board above or next to your desk to place anything that inspires you. Cards or notes from clients and friends, tear sheets from magazines that you love, as well as photos of family and friends are some good choices to start with. An inspiring quote printed out in large font can also keep you focussed. You can even take this a step further and make your own 'Vision Board' that reflects your career goals to keep you on the path to success.

Add personality to your work space
Find a beautiful, inexpensive fabric or wallpaper design that you love, wrap it around a ready made art canvas (from an art supply or variety store), secure it at the back with a hot glue gun, and voila! Instant art that will make you smile. Alternatively you could source a collection of inexpensive second hand photo frames, spray paint them all a fun colour (pops of bright colour are fashionable right now - think hot pink, orange or aqua) and fill them with black and white photos from your own collection. Place them on the wall in a random fashion, clustered together. Every time you look up you'll think happy thoughts!

Now let's get to it!

06-JUN-2011Fitzy & Wippa take The Hangover Part II to record breaking box office results

fizywippa

Nova’s Fitzy & Wippa were invited to take part in The Hangover Part II junket and worked closely with the Roadshow team to integrate their ideas and the launch of the sequel. The initiative saw Fitzy, Wippa and 10 lucky winners take on Bangkok and win - in a 24 hour adventure of a life time, just like the boys from the wolfpack.

Roadshow Films have said of the collaboration with Nova and in particular Fitzy & Wippa, “Nova’s Fitzy & Wippa’s Hangover content from LA and Bangkok was fantastic. The whole promotion added a critical element to our marketing campaign to open the film. Integrated content ideas like this make all the difference to elevate media promotions and the Nova team executed it perfectly. Huge thanks to you guys.”

Said Fitzy & Wippa of their whirlwind trip, “We didn’t ask them to re enact the Hangover II but they did and more – 24 hours that we’ll never forget. Unfortunately some of our listeners may never be allowed to enter Thailand again.”

06-MAY-2011Spotlight on... Tony Gilham & Blood Brothers for the Nine Network

Sample image

In the middle of 2009, Tony Gilham was introduced to HMMG by an existing client. Tony needed help telling his story. Tony was the Gilham family member to fight tirelessly for over a decade to see his nephew Jeffrey found guilty for the murder of three members of his family. Through this battle he lost everything including his own marriage, his home and his business but he didn’t stop until justice was achieved and his brother and sister in law could rest in peace with their son Christopher. Jeffrey was sentenced to two life sentences in November 2008.

Working and developing ideas with Playmaker Media while they were shooting the Maria Korp story for Nine, HMMG focused the direction for Tony’s story to television. By mid 2010, David Maher and David Taylor had optioned Robin Bowles’ book, Blood Brother: Justice at Last and engaged Tony Gilham as a consultant on the telemovie.

Tony Gilham said of Playmaker Media, “They understood the depth of the story and my perspective and were careful to ensure that I had a voice during the development of the script and production.” When Tony Gilham met Tony Martin who was set to play him in Blood Brothers, “It was good to meet Tony. He is a great guy. He was shocked by some of what I had been through over that 14 year period. We spent a few hours together just talking.”

HMMG is excited to see Tony Gilham’s story be told as an another fantastic Australian drama goes to air this Sunday.

Blood Brothers will air on the Nine Network on Sunday 8 May at 8.30pm.

21-MAR-2011Spotlight on... Christiaan and Connor Van Vuuren

Christiaan and Connor Van Vuuren

HMMG is thrilled with Christiaan and Connor Van Vuuren’s win at the 2011 Optus One80 Project. Christiaan and Connor won the Judges Choice Award for their video Sick.

We first met Christiaan van Vuuren, the outdoor media sales rep, in an isolation room at Sydney Hospital in June 2010.  He had been in isolation for 5 months at the time after being diagnosed with Multi Drug Resistant Tuberculosis. Trapped and isolated, completely removed from his independence and freedom, Christiaan began communicating with the outside world, escaping his confines through social media.  His younger brother Connor, an actor and stunt man, donned a mask and gloves for brief visits in isolation, helping Christiaan write and produce his comedy rap videos.  All the while a massive online fan base began to assemble.  The brothers began skilling themselves up on a range of different cameras and editing tools, and set up a YouTube channel to broadcast their work with Facebook and Twitter to promote it.

Christiaan and Connor began broadcasting their first web series while exploring further outlets. During this time, the Optus One80 Project crossed their desks. Christiaan and Connor produced Sick in only a few days and wearily submitted their entry after a three day creation-bender.

15-feb-2011 Andrew Winter and Charlie Albone return to The LifeStyle Channel in Selling Houses Australia EXTREME

Selling Houses Australia EXTREME

The ASTRA Award winning Selling Houses Australia returns tomorrow night (Wednesday 16 February) with a must watch Series 4 - Selling Houses Australia EXTREME. HMMG clients Andrew Winter and Charlie Albone join designer Shaynna Blaze-Vaughan to work and sell the impossible.

Andrew commented on the new series this week, “It’s taken us around 6 months to create this ‘extreme’ version, hopefully everyone that watches will enjoy the show as much as we enjoyed making it.  Was it really extreme, oh yes!  These are the properties that would normally never be considered and let’s face it in most cases the agents and sellers had just about given up."

Charlie said, “When I was approached for Selling Houses Extreme I thought to myself ‘how hard can it be?’  When I turned up at the first house and saw a power station in the front garden I realised!

From there on in the standard had been set and for the months that followed the team and I have had to convert a shed into a house, bring a fairytale home back to normality and work on a snake infested house ... to mention a few.

14-OCT-2010Elka Whalan launches Little Takas, the world's most biodegradable nappies, in Sydney

Elka Whalan at the Little Takas launch

Elka Whalan launches Little Takas in Sydney today. She was joined by Sylvia Tulloch, chairman of EcoQuest Limited and Senator Simon Birmingham, Shadow Parlimentary Secretary for the Environment.

Elka says, "In preparing for my daughter Nevada’s arrival, I was alarmed to read that regular disposable nappies can take more than 100 years to decompose. And with newborns going through 6 to 8 nappies a day, that’s one billion nappies, enough to fill more than 2,000 Olympic sized swimming pools, ending up in land fill each year in Australia.

“Initially I looked into cloth nappies as a green alternative but when you consider the energy and water required to wash the nappies, the environmental benefits seemed minimal. Then I discovered Little Takas. The all natural fibres are so soft against Nevada’s skin, are super absorbent and highly breathable. They are good for Nevada and good for the environment.”

06-APR-2010 Angelita Pires joins HMMG to explore book and film opportunities

Angelita Pires. Photo by Sunday Telegraph.

Angelita Pires, recently acquitted of a plot to kill East Timorese President Jose Ramos Horta and Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão, has signed with Lauren Miller Cilento (HMMG) to pursue international book and film opportunities.

Angelita is a sternly proud East Timorese woman whose family was forced to flee to Australia upon the Indonesian invasion in 1975. When her country secured its independence in 1999, like many exiled East Timorese scattered throughout the world, she immediately returned to be a part of the rebuilding of her war torn nation.

Angelita, a Timorese/Australian citizen, had been under house arrest in East Timor for two years after being accused of backing the alleged assassination plot by financing the rebels movement in the country. Her lover, famed rebel leader Alfredo Reinado was killed during the gunfight. She has vowed to continue to fight for the release of 23 of Reinado's men who have been found guilty of crimes relating to the attack on President Horta on 11 February 2008.

She was found not guilty on 3 March 2010 and said outside the court, "I am extremely relieved to be exonerated by the court of any involvement in the events of February 11, 2008. My life has been on hold for over two years and it's been an enormously stressful and emotional time for me. Today is the most important day of my life. I have rightfully regained my freedom. I’d like to say that I have learned that liberty is one of the most important things an individual can possess."

Lauren Miller Cilento says "Angelita's story is ongoing and one that I want to help her share with the world. She is beyond an inspiration; a fiercely passionate and intelligent woman who is not afraid to fight for her beliefs and the rights of those without a voice. In many ways, her story has only just begun in terms of the political future of East Timor."

I know what people are looking to read, and I think I’ve got an idea. I know exactly what I’d do, but as it’s a very competitive market, I have no intention of saying!”

09-OCT-2009Heart Of The Waratah By Jenny Kee

Jenny Kee - Heart of the Waratah

The upcoming exhibition, 'Heart of the Waratah' by famous Australian designer, Jenny Kee, is an exploration of the form and personal spiritual meaning of the waratah.

"I want to share my passion for the waratah: the flower that has become my totem, the symbol of my fiery emotions. I live surrounded by native bushland that is frequently ravaged by fires. After fire, waratahs are like flames exploding into bloom from their bed of ashes, big crimson hearts opening to the sun. I am always astonished that such beauty can spring from such devastation. I see waratahs as the essence of fire - from the destruction comes rebirth. From personal tragedy I have been reborn through creating art - transforming pain into joyous beauty - that is the waratah" - Jenny Kee.

The exhibition, consisting of a series of 24 oil stick drawings on paper, will open at Hat Hill Gallery in Blackheath, Blue Mountains, on Saturday evening, 24th October 2009 between 6pm-8pm.
