Kent ‘Smallzy’ Small’s name might suggest he’s light-on when it comes to talent but his career history to date begs to differ.
In 2007 at 22, Smallzy joined dmg Radio’s Nova 106.9FM with Michelle Anderson to take on the role of night show hosts. The duo consistently enjoyed ratings wins and went on to be nominated Best On Air Team at the 2008 Australian Commercial Radio Awards competing in the same category as Hamish & Andy & Kyle & Jackie O – lauded for their creative ‘no rules’ approach to their show – including a segment called How Long Will It Take Management where the pair took a scooter into the busy Nova studios and revved it until the smoke detectors went off. For the record it took management a further two minutes to come check if they were okay – despite the smoke-filled studio.
Smallzy currently has his own national night show on the Nova Network which rated as the Number 1 night’s show in Australia and consistently trends on twitter in Australia and Worldwide. Smallzy’s Surgery focuses on all things music and celebrity and the show has travelled internationally to get access to the biggest stars in the world. Watch the best bits from 2013 here.
Some of his favourite artists include Passion Pit, Regina Spektor, The Kooks and Phoenix. When you’re not spotting Smallzy in his element at a gig, you’re likely to find him chilling with mates, relaxing at the beach or going for a run.
Having achieved so much in such a little amount of time goes to show that even though his surname might lack in size, his personality and talent make up for it. Smallzy is quickly becoming a regular across Australian television , acting as our very own ‘pop culture’ expert on shows such as Mornings, Weekend Sunrise, Ten Late News and stepping in to co-host The Loop.
